July is the time for whales. We have seen dozens of whales from our house and the trails around Pouch Cove. The most interesting but also most difficult to see and photograph are the humpbacks. They put on acrobatic displays of jumping (breaching) but that is usually too far away to photograph. Minkes are smaller and tend to come closer to shore, so most of my photographs are of Minke. Cape Spear is a great place to watch whales.
